Have you ever gone away on a weekend (or even mid-week) getaway, arrived at your destination, checked in, and then thought  “Hmmm, now that we’re here, where do we eat that is close by?”

That is how many of the couples feel when they get to Lazy Cloud….they have driven through Lake Geneva, they then passed our Inn, and about 7 minutes later or so, pulled into the driveway for the B&B.  As they are checking in, they ask “where is a good place to eat close by, without having to drive back to Lake Geneva?”

Fortunately for them, the picturesque village of Williams Bay, WI offers up many different dining options.  We thought we would share the different places you can dine at, all of these are within a 5 minute drive from our Williams Bay B&B.

Lucke’s Cantina:

Great  Mexican food, the best guacamole around, and of course, serving the Perfect Margarita!  At Lucke’s you will find an array of great food, and beverages (including up to 15 draft beers).   You can dine on soups, salads, appetizers, burritos, chimichangas, enchiladas, tacos, tostadas and more.

What’s more on Saturday and Sunday, they offer a breakfast menu as well.  AND…on Sundays, they offer a Build your own Bloody Mary Bar.

They are located at:

220 Elkhorn Road, Williams Bay

Monday-Thursday 11 AM – 9 PM
Fridays 11 AM – 10 PM
Saturday 8 AM – 10 PM

Pier 290

PIER 290 opened in July 2012. Gage Marina has been in the Gage Family since the 1950’s. A complete renovation of the Marina included the creation of a lakeside restaurant. The piers on Lake Geneva are numbered and Gage Marina is pier “290″.

PIER 290 Restaurant shares a synergistic relationship with the marina, while operating independently. PIER 290 provides the Gage Marine Boat Club Members and In/Out Valet customers a location to gather and dine. Clear Water Outdoor’s new retail location on the Gage Marina Campus offers kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals, as well as Yoga on the Beach. Gage Marine hosts Thursday Wake Nights and Wake Camps all summer. Together Gage Marina and PIER 290 Restaurant provide opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy lakeside living, even if they don’t have a home on the water.

PIER 290 Restaurant is a uniquely American restaurant focused on clean flavors, fresh ingredients, and attentive service. Lakeside location features casual dining, outdoor decks, white sand beach, outdoor bar, fire pits and private dining lounge, all overlooking the vistas of Lake Geneva. Open year round, PIER 290 is accessible by land, water, and ice. The progressive menus feature a variety of options that highlight the season’s best local ingredients, creating a special experience each time you dine.

Daddy Maxwell’s

Back in 1987 when the old Arctic Circle diner closed, Marshall Maxwell  convinced his father to help him purchase the place and Daddy Maxwell’s was born.   26 years later, you will find Marshall and his wife Jeanette have turned this place into one of the most popular in the Bay.  Though there is limited seating, (64 seats), they can feed over 500 on a busy Sunday morning.

They are open for breakfast and lunch, and once you walk in the door, you know your taste buds are in for a treat, especially when you see the homemade pies on the counter!   Breakfast specials are delicious and depending upon the day can range from Door County cherry pancakes, to Swedish pancakes, to Huevos Rancheros.    If breakfast isn’t what you are after, you will find some classic homemade comfort food lunch specials as well.

Friday nights are special because this is the one night they stay open later to serve up their fish fry!

Cafe Calamari & Harpoon Willie’s

Cafe Calamari is an elegant restaurant, that opens for dinner at 5 PM and serves until 10 PM.  Sharing the same kitchen but serving traditional pub fare is Harpoon Willie’s, that is open for lunch and dinner.

Cafe Calamari is considered one of the best restaurants in the Lake Geneva area and  is considered a mecca of fine dining.  With the perfect marriage of wine and food, enjoy your evening in a cozy corner or outside on the patio overlooking Geneva Lake.  While the name suggests Italian, Cafe Calamari is that and much more!  Cafe boasts seductive pasta creations in addition to delectable arrays of steaks and fresh seafood.  And, Cafe receives accolades for their signature Calamari.  One of Cafe’s secret ingredients, however, is not really a secret, but is their passion for excellence and the personal warmth you will experience when dining.

Harpoon Willies is more than just a bar and grill.  Enjoy charbroiled burgers, raw oysters or veggie wraps.  Also features homemade pizza, Chicago style pan and a variety of unique sauces and toppings.  Fishermen, sailors, vacationers and local residents enjoy the daily sandwich specials and Friday night fish fry featuring Blue Gill and Walleye.    During the warmer weather you can dine out on their outdoor screened-in deck overlooking Geneva Lake.

Seating over 300 people, makes these two combined locations one of the largest restaurants in the area.
